Celebrate World Radio Day with Magenta Radio

Thursday 13th February is World Radio Day and Magenta Radio will once again be taking part in the celebrations. Proclaimed in 2011 by UNESCO and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012 as an International Day, World Radio day continues to remind us of the ever important power of radio as a medium; as it entertains, informs and gives previously unheard voices a platform.

This year's theme is "Radio and Climate Change". 2025 marks a pivotal year for climate change. In accordance with the Paris Agreement, if humanity is to limit global warming to 1.5°C, greenhouse gas emissions must peak by that year at the latest, before they begin to fall. To support radio stations in their journalistic coverage of this issue, World Radio Day on 13th February 2025 will be dedicated to "Radio and Climate Change". In the age of artificial intelligence, alongside ubiquitous social networks, quality radio is still universal and popular, considered to be the most reliable medium.

Did you know that radio saves lives? Even during the worst climate crises, radio is often the only way to get the right information at the right time. Radio helps us prepare and adapt to climate change. It gives each and every one a voice. It helps us make better decisions, and build a more secure future.

To commemorate World Radio Day, 4 brand new promos created by UNESCO will air on Magenta Radio throughout the day from 1st-28th February. On 13th February, Magenta Radio will air a selection of nature sounds as part of UNESCO's plans. We'll also be sharing the story of Ram Singh Bouddh from Uttar Pradesh in India, who broke the world record for the largest collection of radio sets in the world in 2024.
